A BRIEF HISTORYABriefHistory

In June 1998, Tim May, an assistant pastor at New Life Church in Frederick, Maryland, invited some neighborhood friends to spend a couple of evenings a month praying, sharing, and relaxing together. Eventually, the home group split into two groups, then three. As participation grew, Tim quickly realized that these casual home groups were actually the seeds of something much larger.

It seemed God had big dreams for Tim and Susan in a little town across state borders-- Charles Town, West Virginia. God was already at work there, “preparing the ground” to accept the seeds that were already growing. And what would those seeds become? A brand-new Foursquare church, theBridge.

With a lot of prayer and planning, and with the support of New Life Church, theBridge launched public gatherings on Easter 2002 at Page Jackson Elementary. About 40 adults and children came together to worship, pray, and hear what God was saying to them.

Since then, theBridge has expanded considerably in size and influence in Jefferson County. Not forgetting their roots, theBridge quickly began home groups of its own, and participation remains an invaluable aspect of Bridge family life. Programs like kidsBridge and theJourney, for children and teens, continue to thrive, while other activities like Bible studies, Community Connections, and mission trips enrich the lives of men, women, families, and friends, locally and around the world.

In all of this, however, the heart of the church remains the same as it was back in 1998, in Tim and Susan’s living room. That heart is a simple desire to follow Jesus, and to foster an atmosphere of grace, love, and mercy by extending it to all we come into contact with. theBridge has dedicated itself to being a body of believers that are committed to connecting people to the recovering, restoring, resourcing, and releasing love of God.
